Valencia, 10 June 2026. – Fundación Valenciaport is stepping up its strategy for digitalisation and sustainable logistics. The organisation’s chief executive, Antonio Torregrosa, today presented the activity report for the first half of 2026 to the Board of Trustees, highlighting the management of 41 active innovation projects. 95% of these initiatives are co-funded by the European Union through competitive programmes such as Horizon Europe, CEF and Interreg Euro-MED.
Among the most significant milestones of the period is the European Commission’s recognition of the IMAGINE B5G project. The EU body has included the five 5G pilot projects developed in the Port of Valencia among the continent’s ten greatest achievements in port technology innovation. With regard to decarbonisation, the Foundation has successfully completed the HYPOBATT (ultra-fast charging system for electric ships) and AENEAS (on-board electrical energy storage) projects.
New projects and technology roadmap
During the first half of the year, two new initiatives were added to the Foundation’s portfolio: COVE SSHARP (an Erasmus+ programme focused on excellence and the green transition in port vocational training) and HORIZONTE VALENCIAPORT. The latter, funded by the State Research Agency (AEI), aims to strengthen the organisation’s European projects office to increase its success rate and leadership in proposals, and to boost the participation of Spanish companies in these projects.
Furthermore, Antonio Torregrosa has informed the board members of the two collaborative innovation initiatives selected by the Valenciaport Innovation Committee to be promoted by the port community during 2026: the implementation of a technology watch system and the calculation of the carbon footprint of the logistics chain.
Open Innovation – Opentop
On the subject of open innovation, Torregrosa highlighted the launch of the 6th edition of the Valenciaport Hackathon, organised by its Opentop initiative, which will take place on 30 June and 1 July, introducing a new startup competition model. He also reviewed the new pilot projects tested since January at the Port of Valencia in collaboration with various startups, such as the validation of the HALOTECH solution for the collection and analysis of operational and safety data, and the testing of an autonomous flight control system for unmanned hydrofoil vessels by Caponnetto Hueber. Finally, he announced that the 4th edition of its renowned International Port Entrepreneurship Congress (PEIC) will be held on 21 October as part of the VDS.
Training
With regard to training, the director highlighted the recent launch of the Sustainable Maritime Mobility Hub, a public-private partnership initiative led by Baleària and promoted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport and leading companies in the maritime sector, with the aim of adapting vocational training to the real needs of the maritime and port sector.
This project was created to address the lack of specific professional profiles and to correct the mismatch between training provision and business needs.

Encounters at the Port of Valencia
Another piece of news shared with those present was the recent launch of the lecture series “Encounters at the Port of Valencia”, an initiative that seeks to transform the port environment into a space for reflection open to professionals and the general public. The series was inaugurated on 28 May with a lecture by physicist and science communicator Alberto Aparici on the quantum computing revolution.
Pharos 39.0
The half-yearly review also confirms the success of Pharos 39.0, the Valenciaport Knowledge Hub launched last February, which now has over 2,500 active users in strategic markets such as Spain, the United States, the Netherlands, Ireland and Singapore.
