Fundación Valenciaport is consolidating its commitment to research and humanism through the ‘Encounters at the Port of Valencia’ lecture series, an initiative designed as an open forum for reflection and dialogue on some of the major challenges of our time – ranging from ethics to cutting-edge technology – led by leading figures and specialists.
We invite the port community and the wider public to broaden their horizons by taking part in these free events, which serve as a meeting point for learning, sharing knowledge and strengthening the ties between the port and its surrounding community.
For this second event, we are delighted to welcome J. Ignacio Pichardo, Professor of Social Anthropology at the Complutense University of Madrid, who will deliver the lecture ‘We Are Diversity: Sexualities and Identities in Everyday Life and at Work’.
The ways in which we experience emotions, relationships, sexuality and our own identity are diverse and form part of everyone’s daily experience. From an accessible and informative perspective, the session will offer some insights into how our ideas about couples, families, femininity, masculinity and the different ways of expressing who we are are constructed. Drawing on everyday situations, we will reflect on how social expectations influence personal relationships, day-to-day coexistence and work environments.
In short, the aim is to provide a space for learning about diverse realities, challenging stereotypes and reflecting on how to foster environments in which we can all live together and go about our lives with respect, freedom and mutual recognition.
J. Ignacio Pichardo is Professor of Social Anthropology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He heads the Research Group on Anthropology, Diversity and Coexistence and has spent more than twenty years researching social relations, diversity and inclusion in organisations and businesses.
